Pitcher Filter Systems
For the most part, a pitcher filter system continues to be one of the most popular and convenient ways to access clean filtered water at home. In general, a pitcher filter is inexpensive, easy to find, easy to store, and very easy to use, requiring no installation. read more.
Most of the time a water pitcher filter requires you to fill a portion of the pitcher with water and wait as gravity pulls it through the actual pitcher filter system. The water then drips down, filling a separate area of the pitcher from which you access your clean water.
But their simplicity comes with a cost. In general, the less complex the water pitcher, the less filtering it actually does. A pitcher filter does a good job of filtering out basic contaminants like lead, but has a more difficult time with complex chemicals like volatile organic compounds (VOC's) or benzene.
A pitcher filter also requires more frequent filter changes, too. Since many of them use activated carbon filters for a pitcher, you need to make sure that they're changed regularly (typically every 2-3 months) or they can begin to mold.
But if you're looking for a quick and easy solution in order to have better tasting water, a pitcher filter might just be your best bet!
